Boraras naevus “Strawberry Rasbora”

With the advent of nano planted aquaria, the Micro Rasboras or Eyestrain Rasboras are certainly getting a lot of attention, and we’ve brought a few varieties in to see what all the fuss is about. After patiently holding and growing these fish, and conferring with references, these particular fish, which were originally delivered to us as Chili Rasboras, are in fact Boraras naevus, the “Strawberry Rasbora”. They exhibit strong schooling tendencies in the holding aquarium here. This is of course, a very small fish species…definitely would be lost in anything larger than a 5 or 10 gallon aquarium unless kept in massive quantities. Heavily planted tanks should help keep them out and about…they are a bit skittish one you first approach their tank. They are flourishing here on finely powdered flake foods and live baby brine shrimp as a supplement.
