Selaginella uncinata ‘Peacock Spikemoss’

Also known as Blue Spikemoss, Blue Moss, Rainbow Spikemoss, Rainbow Moss, the color of Selaginella uncinata varies in a wide range from green to iridescent blue but also rose to bronze hues. It grows well, and low to the substrate at times, making it a good groundcover in the vivarium. It is a native of China. Sold in a 2″ cup; standard size will cover the cup’s surface area while XLG sizes may flow outwards from the cup by a few inches.

General Care Information

In my opinion, be sure to keep it humid and offer brighter light for the best color,  although lower light is more likely to bring out the blue shades. Over time, this plant will require pruning in a vivarium.

This native of China is actually winter-hardy to zone 6 too, and is planted outdoors as a garden plant in some locations; In the Gulf States, it is even grown outdoors as a perennial groundcover.
