Fuzzy leaves and striking patterning make this species a standout in any vivarium or terrarium. However, it does not have the strongest stems; larger animals may trample this cute gesneriad. It occasionally blooms with flowers that are purple in the center fading to lavender at the edges. Our standard 2″ cup specimens are young, typically bearing 4+ leaves as shown. XLG 2″ cup specimens are, basically, very large, might be near blooming, and are ready for a repot!
General Care Information
A tropical plant native to South America, it is tolerant of a wide variety of conditions, but we think it appreciates being wet. Leaves can reach up to 3″ x 1″, possibly even larger. Being a rhizomatous gesneriad, it will send out runners and ramble; pruning will be useful for control its growth form and where you want it to be. It can go dormant at times but easily regrows from rhizomes which look like little stacks of green coins strung together.
About MiniWaters Vivarium Plants
Any plant whose cultivation condition is denoted as “sanitized” has been put through MiniWater’s bleach treatment and have been held in animal-free conditions following this treatment. While we do not guarantee our plants to be disease and pest free, we believe we are offering the lowest-risk plants possible. We encourage all customers to sanitize any plants they purchase from us, or any other vendor or hobbyist, prior to their use with your animals.
