Alsobia dianthiflora, the “Lace Flower”, is a gesneriad, a relative of the commonly grown African Violets. It makes a great vivarium plant. It stays somewhat small and spreads on runners, setting up new plantlets as it creeps and cascades. If you want to keep this plant confined, simply pinch off the runners. If conditions are right, the plant will treat you to beautiful white flowers trimmed in fine lacey edges on the petals. Sold in 2″ cups; XLG will be larger plants producing runners and plantlets. As with all our offerings, the smallest plant shown is our “target minimum”, what you will recieve should be that, or larger.
General Care Information
A tropical plant native to Central South America, it appreciates warmth and humidity, however, Lace Flower or Lace Flower Vine can really tolerate a wide range of conditions and temperatures down to near freezing. This plant can also do well as a houseplant and in hanging baskets; pruning is required to keep larger plants bushy and full…otherwise it really prefers to spread and ramble. While it can take a fair amount of shade, it’s often considered to be a higher-light plant.
