The captive-bred Maze Angelfish, Chaetodontoplus cephalareticulatus, produced by Bali Aquarich, is a true rarity and gem. These fish arrive ready to feed, eat anything, and are a tremendous showpiece for your aquarium. Juveniles start out yellow and black, and start transitioning to adult coloration at a small size, perhaps 1.5-2″ in length.
While the taxonomic status of this species is still debated, and it is clearly similar to the Blue Stripe Angelfish, the orange face and amazing patterning of blue lines still sets this fish apart. Extremely rarely imported as a wild-caught fish, getting them captive-bred may in fact be the best way to get them!
I don’t normally stock this species, but it can be purchased by special order. Price may vary from the prices currently listed; it could be higher or lower, but will be clearly agreed to before a purchase is finalized. Contact us if you’d like to discuss an order. You’re also welcome to add this to your waitlist; you never know when I might just decide to bring one in for sale. I’ve brought a few in earlier in 2016, all of which went to the Lake Superior Zoo; a couple are on display there today, and those are the specimens in these photos! They look GREAT.
As with any large angelfish, it’s foolish to say these are 100% reef safe; it’s a case-by-case basis.
