Amphiprion ocellaris “Fancy White” Clownfish

The Fancy White is a designer variant of the Ocellaris Clownfish, Amphiprion ocellaris. It originated in the tanks of Bill Addison’s C-Quest hatchery several years back now. But there’s an interesting genetic story at play here. Despite having unusual bar patterns, in every other respect, the Wyoming White is simply a standard A. ocellaris.

Note our grades in this latest batch – “Kinda Cool”, “Cool” and “Very Cool”…we forgot to count bar connections this go-around so for now, you get these ambiguous, subjective takes on the patterning of the fish! “Spotted” has a round spot where the midstripe would be…could be a misbar or could be the influence of the fancy gene.

The fish we sell as “Fancy Whites” are normally graded by the number of “bar connections” shown on the fish. They range from highly-patterned fish with no connecting bars, to fish that have 1, 2 connections on opposite sides, 2 connections on the same side, 3 connections or the maximum possible, 4 bar connections.  It can be difficult to get an accurate headcount of stock; generally speaking if you order something and it is out of stock, we will try to contact you, or if we are unable to, we may opt to simply “upgrade” you.

Pictures here are representative only. Since Fancy Whites are so variable, if you’re the type of person who doesn’t like surprises, I’d recommend you wait for a WYSIWYG offering instead of buying a stock fish.
